A little history about Woodway, TX
Woodway, Texas is a small city located in McLennan County, just outside of Waco. The area that is now Woodway was originally inhabited by the Waco and Tawakoni Native American tribes. In the early 1800s, European settlers began to move into the area and establish farms and homesteads.
The city of Woodway was officially incorporated in 1959, although it had been a part of the larger Waco metropolitan area for many years prior to that. The name “Woodway” was chosen to reflect the city’s abundant trees and greenery. Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, Woodway experienced significant growth and development. The city attracted many new residents who were drawn to its peaceful suburban lifestyle and proximity to Waco. New homes, businesses, and public facilities were built to accommodate the growing population.
Today, Woodway is a thriving community that is home to around 9,000 residents. The city has a strong sense of community pride and is known for its excellent schools, parks, and public services. One of the most notable events in Woodway’s history occurred in 1999, when a tornado struck the city and caused significant damage.
